REC History - 2010

2010 started as a fairly quiet year for REC but things would start to get charged up as we go along. REC would speak out in opposition of an Appeals Court network neutrality decision favoring Comcast. After terms of the contract between REC and Sirius/XM have expired, REC relaunches FMFIND.info, a website that can be used by satellite radio owners and hobbyists to find FM broadcast channels that can be used for very low power FM transmitters. Over the summer, REC has been closely following the progress of the Local Community Radio Act and some potential agreements between parties that could make the LCRA a reality. In response to the increased activity and to replace a retired Census Bureau web service, REC had made improvements to the mapping functionality of the LPFM Channel Search Tool. At the end of the year, we received the present that all hoped for, the House and the Senate passing the Local Community Act. While the legislation contained some comprimises, it was overall a win for LPFM. This legislation would get the Broadcast Services section of REC Networks in full gear.

Michi-chan Rollersports Productions would continue to wind down production operations. REC still maintains derbydata.com which features Arizona scores and the Arizona Power Rankings. Overall, the sport experienced major growth in Arizona with the establishment of new leagues and 4 existing leagues banding together to form the Arizona Roller Derby Conference. The Arizona Power Rankings included 16 different in-state home teams, a number that is projected to increase to 23 by the end of 2011.

2010 was the first full year of the J1 Radio identity. REC has operated a chart Japanese pop format internet radio station since 2010 under the name Hardcore J. The station was rebranded J1 Radio in 2009. J1 would experience increased listening during the year. We would promote the Jin Akanishi Yellow Gold Tour and various other promotions througout the year. J1 would raise enough funding to support the station througout 2011. "Aitakute Aitakute" by Kana Nishino would be the number one single of 2010.

In November 2010, the long awaited REC facility move took place. We ended up in Prescott Valley, AZ. While the physical move only resulted in less than a week of downtime, problems with Qwest at the new location resulted in about another week of unexpected downtime. REC moved to an alternate provider and have been operating stable since then.
