FAQ: When must a translator be identified?

Per §74.1283 of the rules:

  • Translators can be identified by voice by running an announcements between 7-9am, 1255-105pm and 4pm-6pm over the primary station.
  • Translators can idenfied by transmitting the call sign in international Morse code. This can either be modulated with a minimum of 30 percent modulation and using a frequency that is not within 200 kHz of the old EBS attention signal frequencies or the translator can identify through frequency shift keying between a 5 and 25 kHz carrier shift.
