Nexus Closure FAQ

By admin | 10:29 AM EDT, Mon August 04, 2014

REC has received many questions in regards to the closure of Nexus and how this will impact our clients as well as others who have purchased equipment from Nexus Broadcast.

Please note that information directly related to Nexus Broadcast future operations is based on information that we have received.  This is subject to change.  Please also check with http://nexusbroadcast.com for more information.

I have heard that REC now "owns" all Nexus clients, is this true?

No.  We have no "ownership" of any clients that were from prior to the RECnexus joint operations agreement.  For clients who paid Nexus during the RECnexus joint operations agreement for engineering services to be handled through REC we will continue to honor the pending work that we had at the time of the shutdown.  This means that applicants for whom we are still awaiting their decisions on channels or locations as well as applicants who have already had their applications amended by REC but not yet filed while waiting for the MX settlement window for their region,  we will continue to carry out the services that were paid for.  If you only purchased equipment through Nexus, we are unable to assist you in those matters.

I am inquiring about an LPFM application that shows Leo Ashcraft as the Contact Representative, can REC help us?

If the "Preparer's Certification" in Section VI shows Michelle Eyre Bradley, then we may be able to assist you.  Applications that do not show Ms. Bradley as the preparer were not prepared and/or filed by REC and therefore we have limited information to work with but we will do our best to assist you.

What if I need a need a new FCC filing for a change?

Please call REC sales at 1-844-REC-LPFM. We are accepting new work.  We would love to talk to you!

I paid for an MX change and the window has not opened yet.  What is going to happen now that Nexus has shut down?

For clients who paid Nexus during the RECnexus joint operations agreement for engineering services to be handled through REC, we will continue to honor the pending work that we had at the time of the shutdown.  This means that applicants for whom we are still awaiting their decisions on channels or locations as well as applicants who have already had their applications amended by REC but not yet filed while waiting for the MX settlement window for their region,  we will continue to carry out the services that were paid for.

I have a Nexus-branded transmitter and I need assistance, what do I do?

According to Nexus, the Nexus-branded transmitter and processor has been transferred to Global Spice, LLC.  You will need to contact them for assistance.

What about the Penetrator antennas?

The circularly polarized antennas were manufactured by Signal Delivery Systems.  It is our understanding that they will be either marketing them directly or through another provider.  These are really good reasonably-priced antennas and we hope they remain accessible to those who want them.

What is going to happen to REC?

REC has been around for 30 years. We have been involved in LPFM advocacy from the time that Nickolaus Leggett and Don Schellhardt were concepting the idea that lead to today's LPFM service.  Our advocacy side is not going away.   REC's business side is in the process of restructuring and we plan to make an announcement during the Grassroots Radio Conference in mid-August with more information.  All we can say right now, it will be great news! In the interim, we are still helping clients and taking on new projects.  Please call 1-844-REC-LPFM and we will get back with you shortly.  Remember, we are here to help.
