The U.S. House of Representatives today passed HR-6533, a 2010 version of the Local Community Radio Act by voice vote.

This amended version of the LCRA was negotiated between LPFM advocate organizations such as Prometheus Radio Project and the National Association of Broadcasters who had allegedly used influence to block LPFM legislation from passing.

REC has placed a Google mapping solution on the LPFM Search Tool that shows the projected service area of the hypothetical LPFM station. This functionality was to replace the US Census Bureau TIGER mapping functionality that was retired earlier this year.

The separate demographic information page which relied solely on the TIGER maps will not be brought back at this time.

After the REC facility move, we will be looking at more up to date demographic functionality to be added to the LPFM Search Tool.

Based on a user report, REC has determined that there were some issues with updates to the REC FCC CDBS and the REC Industry Canada databaes since May, 2010. We have isolated the issues and we believe they have been resolved. REC did perform a manual update of both the USA and Canada databases to make them current as of close of business on Friday, July 13, 2010. Normally, the REC databases update early on Saturday morning. Please continue to report issues to us at mae at recnet dot com.

For June, J1 reports lower listening statistics. The overall ASL is down to 15.43 compared to May’s 15.71 ASL. June’s lower statistics can be attributed to several factors including two significant network outages, one lasting 13 hours as well as the World Cup games and a seasonal decline in listening that has traditionally taken place each summer. J1 thanks our listeners for their patience and loyalty during our outage periods in May.
