What if the government shuts down?

By admin | 7:43 PM EDT, Fri September 27, 2013

With the possibility of a government shutdown looming on us, especially with an upcoming filing window, there are already concerns on how the FCC is going to handle things during and right after the government shutdown (if one takes place).

During the government shutdown all Media Bureau personnel will be furloughed with the exception of one leadership role that will be on-call.

It is our understanding that CDBS will continue to be functional during the shutdown however it is unknown whether applications will be able to be filed.    There will be on-call contractors to address IT issues with FCC systems.

(updated 9/19) myLPFM September 2013 release

By admin | 8:28 PM EDT, Fri September 13, 2013

REC is doing a "rolling" release of myLPFM, which means that we are developing the changes live.  This means that there will be times when you may see some strange results.  If you see anything real strange, please feel free to let us know about it.

This will likely be the last major release of myLPFM prior to the October 15 filing window that impacts searching (myLPFM Search).   Overall, myLPFM is a complete platform of LPFM support applications that tracks pending applications and provide LPFM licensees with ongoing assistance.  This functionality is already built.  A free myLPFM username and password is required to access these functions.

myLPFM/Search (Desktop) August 4 release - release notes

By admin | 2:43 PM EDT, Sun August 04, 2013

REC has made some additional enhancements to myLPFM.

Second Adjacent Channel Waiver

myLPFM will now take tower heights into consideration when determining the overlap zone.

When accessing the Check Waiver Potential for a particular channel, two overlap zones will now display per channel.  One is the overlap from the radiation center (existing functionality) and also the overlap zone at ground level.  If the interference does not reach the ground, the ground level overlap zone will display "NONE".

myLPFM/Search July 21 release - release notes

By admin | 2:23 PM EDT, Sun July 21, 2013

Obsolete artice.  Maintained for historical purposes only.

REC has released a new version of myLPFM/Search, the LPFM channel search tool of the myLPFM suite of programs.

The main aspect of this release includes the use of "effective HAAT" for contour measurements.  In the past, the REC tools have used the station's ERP (reduced if directional) and assumed the same height above average terrain in all directions.  This was resulting in less than accurate results, esecially in areas with hilly terrain.

REC adding new FM service contour dataset - will help some applicants get a better view of second adjacent potential

By admin | 8:50 PM EDT, Tue July 09, 2013

REC has been working on adding a better service contour dataset across the various REC tools and services.

Until now, service contour in REC systems has been defined by power, antenna height and directional pattern. This new functionality takes this one step farther by using a different FCC dataset that not only shows an FM station's service contour, but it also takes terrain into consideration.

In the REC Broadcast Query Tool, many "current" FM faciltiy records have had their maps enhanced to show this new service contour data.  When "View Map" is clicked, the map will now show the actual 60 (or 57 or 54) dBu service contour.
